'Air' Directed by Ben Affleck
We made it to the movies over the weekend and I must say, I am so glad we made time to see the new. Ben Affleck/Matt Damon film “Air” about Michael Jordan and the development of the Jordan line of footwear at Nike.
Not only did the film provide tremendous insight into the development process and negotiating strategies that take place with an undertaking like this. Also, it was interesting to have a sort of insider’s view of a brand, specifically “Nike”, and how it navigates working to maintain and in fact grow their place in the industry of running shoes and sportswear in addition to the incredible role “kismet” appears to play in the whole process.
With a strong cast and script, the story is woven in a heartwarming and positive way that finds you rooting for Sonny Vaccaro’s character trying to make the deal happen and applauding Michael Jordan’s mother’s character, played convincingly by Viola Davis, as she lobbies for her son in a competitive retail market in a way that I am sure was groundbreaking for others in similar “shoes” so to speak.
A great movie for date night or an outing for the whole family.
