Review of “Babylon”, the Movie.

The word “disaster” comes to mind when I think of this film. With a “pedigreed” cast, and a previously successful and undeniably talented director, it is difficult to imagine how this “train wreck” of a film was allowed to happen.

Some of us, I believe, still appreciate tasteful, endearing, smart and thoughtful plots. Something I would venture to say is a “far cry” from what occurred here.

Why would Margot Robbie agree to do this role? Or, once engaged in production, why would she or some of the others, continue? It just doesn’t make sense. Orgies and drug use cannot be the “hallmarks” of the evolution of Hollywood, can they? I can’t be the only one who thinks this.

We have to do better. Making good films, with good writing and a code of ethics, can’t be something unattractive to the viewing audience.

Next time you want to see a good film, maybe it’s time to re-watch “Out of Africa”, or “Giant” or “The Sting”. Or watch “Shawshank Redemption” or “Road to Perdition”. The point being we have plenty of other examples of fine filmmaking to guide us.

It’s time to re-evaluate what currently makes a good film and maybe consider returning to our roots. One woman’s opinion, again.
